Mi's terrible run of losses continues as they lost to LSG by 18 runs. The Mi captain consistently won the toss and chose to bowl first. The MI skipper made a startling decision by giving the first over to Tilak Varma. Tilak did not fail to impress the skipper and the fans by conceding only 7 runs in the first over. But it was only Tilak's over which was fruitful for Mumbai Indians as the pacers were thrashed by the former Mi's wicketkeeper/opener Quinton De Kock and KL Rahul as both of them played a variety of shots towards the cover, point, square leg and mid-wicket. The openers were jubilant with their thrashing done on the pacers until De Kock was trapped by the facile spin of Fabian Allen. If De Kock had been Not Out we could have seen 2 Centuries in a single inning after 3 Years.
Despite De Kock's wicket LSG batsman did not shy away from punishing the MI bowlers as both Pandey and KL targeted Mills towards the third man and the frustration on his face was visible. Murugan Ashwin came to MI's rescue by breaking the partnership between KL and Pandey by bowling a flighted ball to Pandey. Mumbai's run of losses had affected their morale as they were fielding below par throughout the match. Two bowlers who leaked a lot of runs for MI were Fabian Allen and Tymal Mills as Mills was targeted by Hooda who destroyed him with his unorthodox and Agricultural Shots and Allen was punished by KL towards the Fine Leg and Deep Square Leg and conceded 100 runs in 7 overs combined. Kl Rahul made a record that might be unbreakable i.e century in his 100th IPL match.
Mi needed to chase the humongous target of 199 and they had a good start by hitting a couple of boundaries until MI skipper Rohit was dismissed by Avesh Khan's Slower Off Cutter. 'Baby AB' Brevis did not fail to show his brilliance as he played short but a stupendous inning of 31 off 13 with a strike rate of 238. SKY did not fail to show his temperament and class by scoring 37 off 27 and building a partnership of 66 off 49 which at a moment pushed LSG on the backfoot. But SKY was unlucky as he was dismissed on a poor bouncer by Bishnoi which he played towards the fine leg. We could see a glimpse of Pollard's Vintage Big Hitting but it turned out sour as he could not capitalize on it. It has been a terrible season for MI and only a miracle can help MI to qualify for the playoffs.
Key Takeaways:
1) Unadkat's Variation of bowling: Unadkat was formidable with his bowling variations as he had dismissed Stoinis with his Wide Yorker and Hooda with a slower bouncer.
Brevis and SKY'S Consistent run-scoring: Brevis and SKY have been able to save the top order by consistently scoring with an intimidating strike rate.
